Why Should I Listen Now?: Because Distractor are a new sensation and you have to get hip with it.

Summary of What I Thinks: You might think that you’ve heard music like Distractor’s before but I think you’d be wrong to think that. There were a lot of instances of the word think in the last sentence, but I think you get the point. Anyway, the reason you might think you’ve heard this type of music before is probably the old late 80’s midi sounds, which show up on this and their previous release “Devotion” pretty heavily. But on “This Time I Got It Figured Out” the boys from Distractor manage to use that sound in the most fresh and smart way we could ever think of.

“This Time I Got It Figured Out” is a lot more accessible compared to the 2015 release “Devotion.” But I like to think that that was a very different group of guys from that album. It’s all the same people involved but you can tell that there was a lot of growing in between all these years that have passed and a lot of polishing of their sound went on during this long gap from full length releases.

If you listen to this album on Apple Music you’ll notice that there are little stars next to the songs “I’m Mad, Forward is the Motto, and Orbital.” Although these songs are good I believe the strongest little ditty on here is “Video Games.” And I’ll admit that I’m partial to that song because they played it on Kilson Street last year on episode 88.

Distractor are quickly becoming a band with a dedicated following. Their stock is slowly but steadily rising and I see these guys going on to becoming a smash hit in other places besides So Cal. Their music is fun, interesting, fresh, and free. Give it a listen and support local music.
