The OC Rollergirls in Santa Ana

By Modesto Briseno

For the past two years of Kilson Street, we have been covering many Santa Ana events and people. For a long time now, I can’t really remember when, I have been really interested in setting foot in the OC Rollergirls facility. Why? This place is actually about 3 or 4 blocks from where we shoot our show. For us to wait this long is seriously lame. Despite our already hectic work and Kilson Street schedules, we managed to make it out to the OC Rollergirls practice three Tuesdays in a row for footage and pictures (see above and below).

The OC Roller girls facility, which was formerly a furniture store is tremendous. The space is actually a great fit for this organization and holds one of the ONLY banked roller derby tracks around. We had the privilege of meeting Phoenix who helps run the organization as well as other girls and gentlemen that are part of the weekly practices. The most intriguing part about our time spent at the roller girls is the fact that we got to meet genuinely dedicated and nice people. I was also privy to information on how the organization has managed to survive despite many hurdles from the owner of the organization Disco.

I will keep this short and really suggest that you as a viewer go out to one of their bouts or even get the courage to step up to their rink and join the OC Rollergirls. You can visit their site and get more information on bouts, how to join and how you can support this great organization.

We would like to thank all of those involved with the OC Rollergirls for the hospitality and for allowing us to record their practices.
